EMPLOYMENT

Are you looking for a challenging position that is never boring and gives you the opportunity to make real and visible improvement in the community?

The Columbia County, Washington Prosecuting Attorney’s Office is currently seeking applicants for the position of Deputy Prosecuting Attorney I. The Deputy Prosecuting Attorney I position is an entry-level position handling primarily district court prosecution, advising of County partners, and coroner work. Possibilities for expansion of job duties (and, as a result, salary) will definitely be considered based on desire, experience, and special skills.

Why You Want to Practice Here:

As we are a small, rural office, you will have unique opportunities to practice across a broad range of practice areas, or to focus on one niche specialty of your choice and gain experience-- larger offices do not offer those opportunities. We also are able to proactively focus on improving the lives of victims, defendants, and community members by addressing the root causes of criminal activities, not mere assembly-line punishment and release. Our office can be fast-paced and hectic, but we are close-knit, friendly, supportive, and offer generous leave and abundant outdoor recreational opportunities close-to-home-- you can ski, swim, boat, fish, and hunt all in the same weekend within a 20-minute drive. We are focused on keeping you here as a member of the community, and practicing at your full potential; your wellness is a priority for us.

We enjoy extremely cordial and collegial relations with our Sheriff's Office, other law enforcement agencies, and all of our County clients. Low-drama, most issues are resolved with a phone call, and our word means everything here.

Salary and Benefits:

The 2022 salary range for this position starts at $50,938. The end of the salary range is $82,365 (however it is likely that a promotion would be made to DPA II far before that salary step). Salary offer will depend on experience, skills, and willingness to expand job duties. While this may not be as high a salary as advertised in larger offices, your dollar goes farther here.

Columbia County offers Public Employee Retirement Plans II and III, Premera health-care plans at multiple deductible levels, Optical and Dental Insurance, and HRA VEBA health-care savings plans; the County contributes $950 towards health insurance.
